Fish Sticks (Frozen, Breaded)

In an air fryer, fish sticks (frozen, breaded) cooks at about ~399 °F for 8 min per ~340 g. 13 models from 4 brands publish their own figure for it below, and whichever you follow, the food is only safe at 165 °F internal (USDA).

Generic reference

~399 °F·204 °C · 8 min

For ~340 g. Not specific to any appliance — see the table below for a real measurement.

Safety (USDA)

165 °F internal minimum

Safety threshold researched specifically for this entry, not assumed from the fresh-fish rule: fish sticks/fish sticks are a pre-cooked, breaded/battered fish product — the fish is already fully cooked (typically parfried) at the factory before freezing, the same category as chicken-nuggets.json in this corpus, not a fresh fillet like salmon.json. USDA/FDA guidance draws a line between cooking RAW fish from raw (145°F/63°C, the salmon.json reference) and reheating a PREVIOUSLY-COOKED/processed food (165°F/74°C, the standard USDA reheating temperature). Commercial fish stick packaging follows the second rule: Gorton's official cooking instructions for its Crunchy Breaded Fish Sticks state an internal-temperature requirement of "165°F or higher" for both conventional-oven and air-fryer methods (see sources) — confirming the industry convention is the pre-cooked/reheating threshold, not the raw-fish 145°F figure, despite the product being fish. 74°C is used here for the same reason 74°C is used for chicken-nuggets.json: it is a reformed, breaded, factory-precooked frozen product, not a raw protein cooked to doneness for the first time.

Prep

  • Straight from frozen, do not thaw
  • Arrange in a single layer, do not overlap
  1. Place the frozen fish sticks in a single layer in the basket, avoiding overlap.
  2. Cook at the temperature and time given, flipping or shaking halfway through for even crisping.
  3. Check that the center is hot throughout and the coating is golden and crisp before serving.

Done when: 165°F / 74°C at the center (probe thermometer)

If yours isn't in the table above, the honest answer is that we have no figure for it — the generic reference at the top of this page is the best we can do, and it's a reference, not a measurement. Your own timing, on your own model, is what closes that row.

Add your model's fish sticks (frozen, breaded) time

Takes about a minute — this food arrives already selected, and only the temperature and the time are required. Nothing publishes straight away: every submission is moderated first.

What the 13 charts disagree about

The spread, stated plainly. The 13 charts above come from 4 brands. Between them they span 6 to 18 minutes, and ~356 °F to 400 °F on the dial. Ranked by the middle of each published range, the shortest chart is Chefman Small-3.6Qt at 7 min and 400 °F; the longest is Midea MF-CY110A1 at 13–18 min and 370 °F — 2.2× as long. Both are quoted from the manufacturer's own chart. Neither is corrected here, and no average of the two is published: a mean of those numbers would be wrong for every machine in the table at once.

Same dial, different clock. Setting two machines to the same temperature does not make their charts agree. At one setting more than one brand publishes a figure for fish sticks (frozen, breaded), and the times still spread out:

  • ~399 °F — 7–15 min across 7 charts from 2 brands.

What separates them is not on any spec sheet, and no manual explains it. The register of disagreements keeps the full list across every food rather than smoothing it away.

The variable most charts leave out. 5 of the 13 charts state a portion weight, covering 272 g to 680 g; the other 8 state none at all. The 12-minute gap between the shortest and the longest chart above means much less than it looks when part of the table does not say what portion it was written for. Where a manual gives no weight, the column above is empty — nothing is filled in.

By appliance format. Split by basket layout, the same charts read: single basket 6–10 min over 5 charts, dual basket 6–18 min over 4 charts, and oven-style 8–15 min over 4 charts. Whether that difference is the format or the manufacturer's chart-writing habits is exactly what the format pages take apart, brand by brand, instead of asserting.

Where this page's own reference sits. The ~399 °F / 8 min at the top is a generic starting point, not a measurement — it sits inside the ~356 °F–400 °Fthe manuals publish, and inside their 6–18 min. Use it when your model isn't in the table. When it is, the manufacturer's own row is the better number, and the cook time calculator gives it to you directly. None of this touches the safety line: 165 °F internal comes from the USDA, not from any manual above, and it is the one figure on this page a manufacturer's chart cannot override.
