Cookie Policy
Last updated: August 26, 2026
A cookie is a small file a site can ask your browser to store. Some are strictly necessary for the site to work; others — like the analytics cookies below — are optional and only run if you say yes in the cookie banner. This page lists every cookie this site can set.
Cookies this site can set
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
rct-cookie-consent | Right Cook Time (first party) | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we don't ask every visit. | Stored locally (browser storage), until you clear it or change your choice | Strictly necessary |
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors from one another. | 2 years | Analytics — only if accepted |
_ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics | Persists session state for this specific GA4 property. | 2 years | Analytics — only if accepted |
skimlinks-* | Skimlinks | Attributes a commission when you click the retailer link on an appliance page. Never applied to the links citing a manufacturer manual. | Up to 1 year | Advertising — runs on every visit |
grow-*, _gr_* | Grow by Mediavine | Recognises returning readers and measures how the site is used, for the audience tools and for the ad programme this site has applied to. | Up to 1 year | Analytics and advertising — runs on every visit |
No ad is served on this site yet, and no ad is sold against you by us. Grow is in place because this site has applied to Mediavine's Journey programme, which requires it to run for 30 days before an application can be made — see our privacy policy for the current status of ads. This table is updated before anything here changes, not after.
Two different rules, and we would rather say so
Google Analytics waits for you. This site uses Google's Consent Mode: Analytics is told "no consent" the moment the page loads, and the two _gacookies are never written until you click "Accept" in the banner. Clicking "Reject" keeps that default in place — nothing from Google Analytics is set.
Grow does not. Mediavine requires its script to load with the page rather than after a click, so it runs on every visit regardless of what you choose in the banner. We are telling you plainly rather than describing a behaviour the site does not have. You can still block it in your browser, and Mediavine's privacy policy covers what it collects and how to opt out with them directly.
If Journey accepts this site, Mediavine's own consent tool takes over from the banner above. It detects the reader's country and applies the rule that country actually requires, which is stricter than what we can offer today. This page will be rewritten that day.
Changing your choice
Click "Cookie preferences" in the footer of any page to reopen the banner and change your answer at any time. You can also block or delete cookies directly through your browser's own settings — that works regardless of what this site asks.
