Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 26, 2026
This is a working draft written to match what the site actually does, not a substitute for a lawyer's review. If you're relying on this page for a business decision, get it checked — see the legal notice for who publishes this site.
Right Cook Time (rightcooktime.com) is a static site: pages are built in advance and served without an account system. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what choices you have — including under UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) for California residents.
Who controls this data
The publisher of this site is identified on the legal notice page. For any privacy question or request, contact contact@rightcooktime.com.
What we collect, and why
Analytics — Google Analytics (GA4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get read and how people find them — nothing more granular than that. It only runs if you accept it in the cookie banner; it is never loaded by default. See the cookie policy for the exact cookies it sets and how long they last.
- What it collects: pages viewed, referring site, approximate location derived from IP address (not the IP address itself, which Google truncates before storage), device and browser type, and session duration. It does not collect your name or email unless you typed one somewhere on the page yourself (which this site never asks for outside the contribution and contact forms, both handled separately — see below).
- Legal basis: your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a), PECR regulation 6). You can withdraw it at any time — see "Your choices" below.
- Who processes it: Google Ireland Limited (EU users) or Google LLC (elsewhere), as a data processor acting on our instructions. Google's own privacy policy governs how it secures and further processes this data: policies.google.com/privacy.
- International transfer: Google may process this data on servers outside the UK/EEA. Google Analytics relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Google's Standard Contractual Clauses to legalise this transfer.
- Retention: Google Analytics' default event retention (currently 14 months), after which individual-level data is automatically deleted. Aggregated reports may be kept longer.
- Advertising features: Google Analytics' advertising signals are refused by this site's own code, on every page, for every visitor. The page declares
ad_storage,ad_user_dataandad_personalizationas "denied" before any Google script loads, and accepting the cookie banner grants onlyanalytics_storage— the three advertising parameters stay denied even then. You can confirm this yourself: open your browser's developer console on any page of this site and inspectwindow.dataLayer. If that ever changes, this policy and the banner will be updated first.
Audience measurement — Grow by Mediavine
We also run Grow by Mediavine. It recognises returning readers and measures how the site is used, and it is a requirement of Mediavine's Journey advertising programme, which this site has applied to: Grow has to run for 30 days before an application can even be made.
Unlike Google Analytics, Grow loads with the page rather than after you accept the cookie banner. Mediavine requires it that way, and we would rather say so here than describe a site that behaves differently from this one. It is the one thing on this site that does not wait for your click.
- What it collects: pages viewed, referring site, approximate location, device and browser type, and an identifier that recognises your browser on a later visit. It does not collect your name or email unless you give one to a Grow feature yourself.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in measuring and funding the site (UK/EU GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). This site's primary audience is in the United States, where prior opt-in is not required; if you are in the UK or EEA and would rather it did not run, block it in your browser or use the opt-out in Mediavine's own policy below.
- Who processes it: Mediavine, Inc. (United States) — grow.me/privacy-policy.
- If Journey accepts this site: Mediavine's own consent tool takes over from our cookie banner. It detects your country and applies the rule that country actually requires — stricter than what we can offer today. This page will be rewritten that day, before any ad is served.
Contact form
If you email contact@rightcooktime.com, we keep that message and your address for as long as it takes to reply and for a reasonable period afterwards in case of follow-up — not indefinitely.
Reader contributions
Submitting a measurement through the contribution form currently opens a pre-filled email to us (no server-side form processing yet — see how it works). We keep the appliance, food, weight, temperature, time, and any nickname or email you include, for moderation and — once confirmed — public display with the provenance clearly marked as a reader contribution. An optional nickname is shown publicly if you provide one; your email is never shown publicly, only used to confirm and, if warranted, follow up.
Affiliate links — Skimlinks
The retailer link at the end of each appliance page runs through Skimlinks, which turns it into an affiliate link where it has a relationship with that retailer. Its script loads on every page and can see which outbound links you click. Clicking one also lets the retailer know you came from this site, under their own privacy policy — we receive no personal data back from either.
- What it collects: the page you were on, the outbound link you clicked, and a non-identifying record of the click for attributing a commission.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in funding the site (UK/EU GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
- Who processes it: Skimbit Ltd, trading as Skimlinks (United Kingdom) — skimlinks.com/privacy-policies.
- Not applied to our sources: every link citing a manufacturer manual is excluded from Skimlinks by
rel="noskim". See the affiliate disclosure for why that line matters.
Advertising networks
No advertisement is served on this site today. No ad slot is rendered, and no ad is sold against you by us. What is running is Grow (above), which belongs to Mediavine and is the prerequisite to their Journey programme — so a Mediavine script is on the page even though no ad is. We would rather state that plainly than let "no ads" imply "nothing from an ad company".
If Journey accepts this site, this policy and the consent banner are updated beforethe first ad-related cookie is set, not after.
Cookies
See the cookie policy for the full list of cookies this site can set, what each one does, and how long it lasts. Google Analytics runs only after you accept; Grow runs on every visit (see above). Nothing else is set before your choice.
Your choices
- Change your cookie consent at any time via "Cookie preferences" in the footer of every page.
- Access, correct, or delete the data we hold about you (contact form messages, contribution records) by emailing contact@rightcooktime.com.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest, or ask us to restrict it, under UK/EU GDPR Articles 18 and 21.
- Data portability: ask for a copy of data you provided us, in a structured format, under UK/EU GDPR Article 20.
- California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you can ask what personal information we hold, ask us to delete it, and opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we do not sell personal information. Google Analytics is only active after your consent, and its advertising signals are refused in the page code whatever you choose; Grow runs on every visit and its own opt-out is in Mediavine's privacy policy (see above).
- Complain to a regulator: UK readers can contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO); EU readers, their local data protection authority.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13 (or 16, where local law sets that threshold).
Changes to this policy
We'll update the date at the top of this page whenever something material changes — a new analytics feature, an ad network going live, a new form. Check back if you want to know what changed.
